Here at CableQuip we have invested a cutting technology 3D printer and a leader in its field. With a humidity controlled material station that automatically changes materials when required. It can print PLA, ABS and ASA Plastic (widely used for automotive plastic parts), Nylon, Glass filled and Carbon filled Nylon, and even Flexible Polyurethane materials.
Rapid Prototyping is one of the many applications that benefit from 3D printing. A part can be made, fitted, checked and then any changes depending on the part can be done in a day, not weeks. In this example we manufactured a motor cycle tipple clamp. Using a 3D printed sample we checked the fitterment before digging into a $400 block of aluminium.
When you look at a cross section of a 3D printed part you will see its not a solid block but has a hollow “honeycomb” internal construction. This design ensures a light part, which uses less material and takes less time while maintaining maximum strength. We have the ability to change the amount of honeycomb to increase strength and rigidity as required. We can even make it solid, however this would increase cost and time.
